Story Retelling+Ordinal Numbers...
Retelling stories leads to improvement in story comprehension, making inferences and understanding a stories structure. It also can greatly improve children's vocabulary as well as help them become more engaged in the reading process.
To start I read them a very familiar book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. I then printed, laminated and cut story retelling cards. Along with the retelling cards I printed ordinal numbers to match. As we retold the story as a class I asked them, "What happened first in the story... What happened second in the story..." until we reached the twelfth event that happened.
