100 Days Smarter!

WOW! Have we really been in school 100 days?!

It has been an absolute fantastic year so far. I am amazed with each child's progress. There has been multiple occasions where I have caught myself fighting back tears because I'm so pleased with their efforts.

To celebrate the 100th day of school we completed several fun activities. To start the day each child received a star note with a Smartie attached to it. In the morning we attended a Pep Rally where the school did a total of 100 dances. Our class had to do the shopping cart, free style, monkey, reebok, jerk, runn it, kick, and gancho. Unfortunately I only had a chance to snap one picture of them dancing. After our schoolwide 100 dances we had a dance party. The kids danced so hard I thought we would fall through the floor- whew! Throughout the day we completed a 100 coin toss worksheet, making a pizza with 100 toppings, self-portrait of them as 100 years old, 100 Fruit Loops necklace, 100 dots using a Q-Tip, built a tower with 100 solo cups in 100 seconds, and build a tree with 100 pretzels and Fruit Loops.

Place Value Pyramid

Our mathematics skill for this week is reviewing place value. Today we completed a "Place Value Pyramid" worksheet. I was a little hesitant of this activity at first, but it ended up being a HUGE success. Before beginning this activity we reviewed each place value and the importance of each place. After I felt they had grasps the concept I began to model how to complete this worksheet.

To start this activity each student received a worksheet, pencil and a deck of cards (numbers 2-9). Students randomly selected 6 cards and created a pyramid on their table. Then they flipped over the ones place value (the top card) and wrote the number on their worksheet. Followed by the tens place value (the middle cards) and then the hundreds place value (the bottom cards). When they completed the worksheet they came to me for a check. During "checking" time they had to read me each hundreds number. If students struggled I wrote the expanded form of the hundreds number (243 would be 200 + 40 + 3).

Snow Globe Fun

I found these adorable snow globes on Pinterest and instantly pinned them to my classroom board. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. Our kids had a great time making them and couldn't put them down once they were finished. :)
