Walrus Subtraction

Hungry Walrus...

I love incorporating art into our studies for several reasons. It not only increases motivation to learn, but students are also able to express themselves in their own unique ways! Our kiddos took their work very seriously during this project.

To start this lesson we talked about walruses. Where they lived, what they ate, what they looked like, etc. I then read a book about walruses to obtain even more knowledge about them. After our investigation, I modeled how to complete the project. Students were given a white piece of construction paper, walrus clip art, fish clip art, markers, glue stick and a subtraction word problem. Students had to color their walrus, fish and create a background. Then they had to make a subtraction problem using their walrus and fish!
